Rhyming Across America

Have you taught your Read Across America unit yet? I received many emails from teachers looking for my Read Across America Resources.  know that some of you covered the unit this week and that many others will cover it next week. So, I decided to update it and even gave it a new title to show that it features rhyming activities. These are activities that may be used at any time of the year. In this packet, students will be able to take notice of the endings of words which create the rhyming words. They will be able to practice their knowledge of rhymes in small group and in centers. Free Halloween Printables

Hello there! Still looking for some fun activities for this Halloween week? Come on by to check out these bat and monster printables. Your students will gain practice in making words with the syllable "ma" using this bat activity. They will also have fun with the monster numbers while sequencing the numbers from 1-20.

Reading Strategies Posters

Reading strategies can be a little hard to remember for young readers. I created 16 posters that your students can refer to when attempting to read new words. For beginning readers, these posters and strategies may be presented and reviewed one at a time. You may move on to the next strategy after the current one is mastered. My posters include picture cues that will help students identify and remember specific strategies. Here is a sample of some of the reading strategies to use:

End of year ideas

Are you wrapping up the school year? Some schools offer Pre-K and Kindergarten graduations. This is so much fun for students and parents. Teachers have a lot of work to do to prepare for graduation day.

I recently added some ideas and youtube links for songs. The World is  a Rainbow and I am a Promise are  songs that we have done in the past.  You will also find a goodbye letter for parents. You can download the Spanish and English versions for your team.  I have also included some free diplomas and ideas for gifts to give to your students.

Mother's day in the classroom

How do you deal with all those family festivities? 

My kids love creating cards. 

Nowadays each family is different and not all my students want to make a mother's day card. So I decided leaving some cards on the writing center with examples.

I made them in English, Spanish and I even left some without text because some of my kids are going to make them for grannies or aunts.

Poem: Llegó la primavera

Yay! Spring is in the air and there are flowers everywhere! This time I am using a traditional poem that I have adapted. This will bring a lot of fun and movement to your classes! Have the children pretend to be each animal in the poem and invite them to act it out!

We are learning about plants

Hi everyone!

Spring is here and we just started our plants unit. 

We will be learning about flowers, trees, leaves and so on.

My students are really excited with this unit because I told them that we will make some experiments.

A Song to Jump While Singing in Spanish

Let's start getting ready for the spring!!! This is a very fun and short song. It's a about a frog having fun jumping. Invite everyone in class to become frogs and jump all over the room while singing in Spanish!

Variation:  Replace the word "rana" for a different animal.

Vuela mariposa, vuela - Fly butterfly, fly

Nada pez, nada - Swim fish, swim

Corre perro, corre - Run dog, run

Spanish Vowel Prints

I am happy to share this Spanish Vowels activity. It is good for independent practice. Before the student colors each picture, he needs to name the picture twice and the initial sound three times. For example, the student will say "elefante, elefante, e-e-e" and then color the elephant picture. I like how the large alphabet letters stand out and help students make letter-sound connections. It comes in very handy when teaching struggling readers this time of year. Click on the Spanish vowels to download your free printables.

This is an activity that will have your students paying attention to the formation of letters by writing words in boxes. Download this free printable that includes 19 sight words.

Spanish Word List {Kinder}

I use a list of Spanish words for each grading period. The list is created by our District's planning guide. We review a couple of words per week, but I post the entire chart as a visual for where we need to go next. I call this list our "Palabras Importantes."  These words are what they call "the most frequently occurring in reading and writing." You will see that the list is divided into 4 mini-lists. List #1 is used during the first grading period. I add List #2 during the second grading period and so on. I definitely teach reading and writing using the syllabic method. These are just separate focus words that our District and administrators require.

This is a sample of my chart for list #2. We chant the words every day, but we focus our activities on the words of the week in our plans.

Hola. I am Lidia from Kinder Latino. As a bilingual teacher, I have always had a difficult time finding resources for my Spanish speaking students. My first years of teaching included many, many hours of working late at school. Sometimes, the custodians left school before me! I was always creating new material, translating printables and searching for websites that might provide resources in Spanish. There is an abundance of learning activities in English, but finding anything in Spanish is like looking for a needle in a haystack! That is why I created Kinder Latino. It's a wonderful way to share ideas and resources with teachers who find themselves overwhelmed in the search for material. When I created my Kinder Latino facebook page, I realized that there is no one that I can network with. When I share ideas in English, my followers request it in Spanish. That is understandable. I have a very specific audience and need to cater to them. I do want to share other teacher's ideas, not just my own. During the month of December, I found myself working extra hard to create and share resources with my followers. That is when I knew that I would love to collaborate with other teachers who share a common interest in providing ideas and resources for our Spanish speaking students. This is how the Bilingual Teacher Clubhouse was born. It is my hope that this site will be the place to inform, share and find ideas that will help you save time with your lesson plans!
